Outdoor Blinds

Outdoor blinds close the open side of a covered outdoor area. Ours are clear panels in a folding frame: they run across the open side of a verandah, patio or alfresco area so the space stays usable when it is raining or blowing, and the whole run folds back against a post when the weather is good. The view and the light stay. The covered outdoor area becomes a room you can use all year.

What you get

How our outdoor blinds are put together

Clear panels in a folding frame

The panels are clear PVC set in a framed folding system. That keeps the run light enough for one person to fold by hand, and there is nothing in it to shatter around children, pets and furniture.

Closed against the weather it will actually get

The run closes against the head, the posts and the floor to keep wind-driven rain off the area. How exposed the opening is decides the detail: a sheltered courtyard and a balcony that faces the weather are not the same job, and that is looked at when we measure.

Keeps the light and the outlook

Because the panels are clear, closing the blinds does not turn the verandah into a store room. Daylight comes through, the garden or the street is still there, and the area still reads as outdoors from inside.

Works with an insect screen

Where the area is already screened for insects, the blinds run in front of the mesh and the two do different jobs: the mesh for summer evenings, the clear panels for the wet and the cold.

Folds away when it is not needed

On a fine day the whole run folds back and stacks against a post or a wall, so the area is as open as it was before. The stack takes a fraction of the run, in the same way an internal accordion door does.

Made to fit the opening

Verandahs are rarely square. Posts are not evenly spaced, beams are not level and the floor falls for drainage. Each run is measured on site and made to fit that opening rather than cut down from a stock size.

Budget

Roughly what it costs

Enough to sanity-check a budget before anyone picks up the phone. It is indicative. The quote is the number that counts.

Indicative pricing

Priced per job. Call us for a price.

Openings vary enough in size, finish, rating and access that a published range would mislead more than it helps. Tell us the opening and you get a real number, not a band.

What moves the number

  • Exposure, which sets the sealing detail at the head, the posts and the floor
  • How many runs the verandah splits into, since every post is a new start
  • Whether the run has to work around an existing insect screen or balustrade
  • Site access, and travel beyond the free-quote radius
